Day 11 - Spend in Airport and Flight

3/11/08
We touched down at DBX airport at 8.45am… Dubai is 4 hours later than us…  This is a short transit, after going through security checks. We only have ½ hr to wandering in duty free before our DBX to KUL flight… I still have a 50 Dirham with me, which I spend it buying a bar of cigarettes for my uncle…
The flight to KUL is half full only and lucky thing is that annoying little devil is not in the same flight. Not long after we departed…  we were served a light snack again…. And the other meal, I don’t know I should classified it as lunch or dinner…  The main course I choose is Chicken breast cook in plum sauce, come in a set of appetizer… cold shrimp, green salads, a too sweet mango moose pudding and drinks… Emirates airlines is so generous in their in flight meal… you’ll feel overwhelm with the unlimited serving of drinks…
Our flight touched down at 9.25pm at KLIA…. We spend some time for duty free shopping and then go to the conveyor belt to get our luggage….. we waited till the last piece of luggage is collected and still no sign of our luggage… So, end up our luggage is delayed at the Dubai Airport, we have to make a report at the luggage office and the luggage will be send to our home the next day….
So disappointed!!!! I thought we can stay awake and dig through the luggage for our shopping victory!

Day 10 - Last Day in London

2/11/2008
Today is our last day in London, our Emirates flight back to KUL will be departure at 11pm from Heathrow Airport London. Wake up and had the last “worst breakfast” in Hostel 639, we deposited our luggage at the hotel and went out to post Leks belonging back…  A small box of approximately 9kg stuff by sea freight cost almost RM800~!!!! OMG!!! That’s just too expensive.
After getting the postage things done, we are free to explore the shopping street again till afternoon.  I need to go back to Primark to change for BB’s shirt as I bought a wrong size for him… me so blur and heartless… don’t even know what is my bb’s size…  There is a good thing about Primark, you can have anything exchange without question asked ask long as you keep the receipt within 7 days. Either in cash or goods… wow, that’s so good, or your item doesn’t have to be in price tag or whatever…  But what if I bought something, wear it for a certain occasion and exchange back in cash??????
We shop again at Primark.. You just can’t get enough of it lah… The price is so low you can’t find European quality clothing elsewhere in the world… I bought some inner wear this time…
We walked in to H & M for a walk also… H & M stuff is way more expensive compare to Primark. But I found stealth in a bargain corner. £1 for a cotton dress~ wow…. This would be the cheapest thing I can get in London!!!! I just love to shop in London….. all nice stuff sell in cheap price… even Top shop, Dorothy Perkins are selling at dirt cheap price… me just too poor to grab everything home lah… Mum didn’t really manage to get a lot of clothing…. Her main task is to get unlimited souvenir back home!!!
We then decide to have lunch at Wasabi once again… We ate curry and sweet and sour chicken fried rice… so weird combination right??? But trust me… its good!!!  Oxford street Wasabi is much more crowded and don’t understand why… the Caucasian just loves heavy taste food… like we do!!!!! We have to immediately get up once finish our last spoon of rice…. So many hungry ghost are waiting for your seats…
After that I went to Carphone warehouse to help Lek to get a LG shine phone… I phone is selling here with contract at only £139…. Wow… that’s cheap…. But too bad I can’t buy it…Anyway… I still prefer the conventional phone….
We window shops for a little while more and leave at about 4 to go back to collect our luggage and head to the airport….
Carrying super size luggage is definitely not an easy task for taking the underground to airport.. The Piccadilly line connects direct to Heathrow Terminal 1-4. We are coming from Kensal Green and means we need to have a interchange at Piccadilly Circus, the most busy underground station in London, it’s a great torture to carry so heavy luggage without a lift…
We reach Heathrow at last at 6 something…. Our flights depart from Terminal 3… Its strange here.. Its unlike any other world class airport, you walk in to a big hall with lots of shops, restaurant and café… Here at Heathrow, if you are not a passenger… you sit outside the building….  In open air… once you walk into the building, it’s the check in counter… Before the check in, we had our dinner, Subway sandwich outside the terminal. Long Haul flight needs 4 hrs earlier to check in… We are among the first who check in. After that we were guide to go to upper level….
Wow… The departure hall is a heaven!!! With cafes, high class restaurants, duty free shops and many many more luxurious brand boutique… I help sis to buy a Gucci back at only £259…  Me personally obsessed with a Burberry Sling bag, only £169… so worth it… but I end up didn’t buy it!!! Regretzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
The waiting time for departure is not too slow in Heathrow as you have so many shops to walk around… LCCT waiting time is the most terrible….you can check in, wait, sleep, wait again, and sleep… then it’ll be your boarding time!!!
While at the boarding gate… we saw a Indian couple with an extremely spoilt kid daughter… She keep on crying and screaming for no reason..  And her parent just leaves her doing it… so irritating… if my daughter were to do this, I’m going to give her a big whack!!! And the unluckiest thing is, they are seating beside me in the aircraft!!!!!
There the EK006 from LHR to DXB departed… I was just so tired and sleep in plane.. This little evil beside me is so noisy she on and off cry and scream and wake the hell up for every passenger…. So annoying!!! Can any kind crew stuff a bundle of cloth into her mouth!!!!!
Me wake up when being served the supper… nothing special… sandwich like our coming flight… but way better and breakfast when we almost reaching Dubai.

Day 9 - The Thames Cruise and shopping day in London

1/11/08

We are back to London again!!! Another 2 days for visiting and mainly for shopping before we go back!!!

We reached the Victoria station real early… all shops is closed, its only 4.50am… what to do??? We just sat and wait at the station.. Outside the freezing wind is blowing soooo strong…. After an hour of lepak… we took the walk back to the main Victoria train station…  We walk through the whole station and only found Mcdonald available for breakfast… So, we got ourselves a steaming hot coffee and warm breakfast… I never like steaming hot stuff, but in this cold weather, it’s the best thing I would like to have!!! I really feel like a loafer for taking my meals at the train station bench!!!

We then take the earliest underground to Trafalgar Square… Trafalgar square is London city’s most vibrant open space and it is often a venue to host big events!! The coming Christmas wonderland is going to take place here… An outdoor snow
Park!! How good if I’m here!!! Again, restoration work is taking place here and access to the square is block… sigh….

Trafalgar Square

After that, we go back to waterloo station to take back Lek’s gigantic luggage to our hotel. We took back all the luggage we deposited… God!!! Oh no!!! We were given a room at the 4th floor… no lift… means we have to carry these tones of luggage up??? We were panting heavily after we move the entire luggage up… This is definitely the worst room any guest would want to stay in, as I mentioned In my earlier post,
Kensal Green is a cemetery neighborhood, we have to walk pass a passageway over looking endless view of graveyards before we can reach the room…. And the room is terrible… it stinks and wait!!! Door knob also spoilt!! I quickly use this as a reason to ask for room change… NO WAY FOR ME TO OVERNIGHT HERE.. We then were change to the 2nd floor rooms…. We have to move the heavy luggage down!!!! Sigh…. Exhausted after doing so!!!!

We took a short rest and change and then go out for our next tour…. The ThamesRiver Cruise!! Yay!! Looking forward!!! Sailing on the most scenatic river in London, passing through Big Ben, London Eye, Tower bridge to the Greenwich..

We took the Thames clipper cost £5 per way from Waterloo pier to the Greenwich Pier.. This river cruise is a strong recommendation from Lek… Oh yeah, I’ve tried all the sky, land and sea transport during this trip!!!

Thames Clipper is an air conditioned river cruise; we chose a seat nearest to the fore for best view…

The Millenium Bridge
The Thames Clipper Cruise
The Famous London Bridge, It has not fallen down yet!!!!
The Tower Bridge
Cruised pass MillenniumBridge, LondonBridge, BlackfriarBridge then Tower bridge and at last it reaches to the Greenwich Pier…
Its so windy at the Greenwich pier..

Me at Greenwich Pier

The Greenwich Foot Tunnel
The Royal Maritime museum, The Queen’s house and the Royal Observatory is all located here in the Greenwich town…
We first walk to the NationalMaritimeMuseum, A place detailing stories of discovery and endeavor from Britain’s seafaring past. There are a lot of ship model from the most antique to the recent most high technology ships in this era… A must see is the exquisitely gilded Prince Frederick’s barge…(Do not allow photography), there are also ancient Captain and sailor’s uniform and accessories exhibit here.

National Maritime Museum

Big Anchor!
Next is the Queen’s house located next to the National Maritime Museum, Queens house was once a richly furnished summer villa for Queen Henrietta Maria and now and elegant setting for fine art and entertaining and display the history of Greenwich in paintings.

The Queen's house
A walk passes a garden and up hill will lead you to the Royal Observatory… We are panting hard walking up the steep hill… The Royal Observatory is home of Greenwich Mean Time and the famous prime meridian of the world.

The Red Time Ball on top of Flamsteed House is one of the world’s earliest public time signals. Flamsteed house also house a variety of clocks and John Harrison’s famous Marine chronometer.

I am searching up and down for the world longitude but fail to locate it!!! I remember everyone been there will take a photo of Kuala Lumpur’s longitude!!!
Our visiting journey ended here, the remaining time is all for shopping…. We walk back to the train station at Cutty Sark, pass through a Vietnamese Restaurant, wait a sec, why is Cantonese fried in the Vietnamese Menu????
We were too tired and fall asleep on the train journey back to town…
The night is falling again by the time we reached to Oxford circus… and raining too Me just can’t resist to walk into the fashion outlet… Oh…. I saw Muji, and also David and Goliath store… but things are so expensive!
Mum is making noise for food again and we at last decided to stop by one of this pizza house. We actually wanted to order a medium pizza for sharing, but the waiter keep on bugging us for second main course; we have no choice and order another carbonara spaghetti.. We were too stuffed after this meal.
Shops almost close and we found the shopping heaven in Oxford street. Primark!!!
Primark is a departmental store selling all kind of clothing, women casual wear, formal wear, inner wear, shoes, bags, accessories, skincares, same goes to men clothing, children and teen.. there is a section selling the bedding accessories also… All in cheap price… Me and mum took hours wandering in Primark.. So far, me got a blue checked dress, a t-shirt, bag as Christmas present for Cat, some accessories and not forgetting my BB’s shirt.
Exhausted from a full day tour and shop, and without proper sleep in the coach last night… we went back to hotel for packing and rest.

Day 8 - Da Vinci Code tour and a sheer luxurious walk at Champs Elysees

31/10/08
Today will be our last day in Paris. We were just too tired to do anything last night back from a tiring one-day trip from Disneyland. We have to wake up early in the morning to do the packing. Squeezed everything into the tiny bag, check out and store our luggage in the electronic locker again. Our coach back to London will only be at 11pm tonight.. so, we have another one full day to cover my own planned itinerary in Paris.

A good day start with a good breakfast, and frankly speaking… Mister Bed City Paris served the best breakfast throughout our whole journey…  Do not expect to be served overwhelming varieties of buffet like what we have in KL and other places in Europe country. What the good breakfast I mean here is I can see more choices of food.. Let me be detail, we can choose toast, baguette, or croissant with all kinds of jams, butter and unlimited supply for super smelly packed cheese, of course they have cereal, and one of this food I especially like, I dun understand the French written on it, but it’s a mix fruits paste, just like baby food!! Yay! I love it! Milk, coffee, tea and juice is free flow and you can have fresh fruits. Note. There is NO MEAT AT ALL!!!! So pity… me so miss my Nasi Lemak breakfast… Mak cik, I am coming back soon for your best Nasi Lemak in Kota Kemuning…..

Today is gonna be another own exploration day in Paris, Me of course learned to be smarter, to avoid scolding, I ask the Hotel Receptionist on the French word I can use to buy the Paris Visite Pass, after a few tries, I still can’t manage to get the pronunciation right, I gave up, and I ask her favor to write it on a piece of paper for me… ohhhh… how brilliant is me!!!

We walk to the Gallieni station and I got our travel pass without any problem.!! Paris is definitely not a place where you can explore it in a few days… So, me while doing research last time, has a planned a Da Vinci Code tour in Paris… That’s one of the best book I ever read and I really loves how brilliant Mr. Dan Brown wrote the detail of this story!

The weather today is not very cooperative for tour, its raining! But it doesn’t stop us! We took Metro to visit the St. Sulpice Church. Its call Eglise St Sulpice in French. It is definitely not easy to find this place from the metro station, we walked around in the row of shops before we can reach there..  There is this beautiful fountain in front of the church and I can’t resist taking a photo!! I just love all these historical building in Europe, never get enough of it, but mum can’t really appreciate it, she commented that the church and museum looks like same everywhere… she can’t even differentiate places she visited in Paris, Bath or London!!! Eglise St Sulpice is the second largest church in Paris after Notre Dame Cathedral. Its under renovation the time we are there, and due to the rain, I did not took any nice photo of this church, what a waste.
Fountain outside the St Sulpice Church
St Sulpice Church

We then decide to pay a visit to Pantheon. We toke the metro to Luxemborg station. My google map didn’t really serve me well this time, as it required some 15 mins walk to the Pantheon. And there is a very confusing junction. We tried to walk around and hope to find the place but fail miserably. Under no choice, we have to get some direction from the local…. Sigh ….. Why this kind of things happens to me, what if me being scolded by the Parisian again? Reluctantly, we stopped a passerby, me following the exact phrase from my phrase book, but he doesn’t seem to understand a single word from me…. Am I really not talented in speaking French? Under no choice, I show the book to him, and keep on saying Pantheon,he understand!!! See so easy! And I flip my phrase book which contain of English and French to the direction page and he show me the left and right direction… hahahahaha… so, me successfully passed the direction asking in Paris without being scolded.

Following his direction, we can see the Pantheon from far… me jumping in joy seeing our next destination in sight. Along the walk to Patheon,we saw this artistic puzzle man…. Unique right???

Unique Puzzle man

There, we at last reach Pantheon! The satisfaction of conquering another spot of your wish is just toooo exciting to be described. There is some council office I guess surrounding Pantheon.. or is it a University??? No idea

The Visits to Pantheon charge a fee of Î9, we decide not to pay and visit it, just take a few photos outside.

Me @ Pantheon

Pantheon is a non-classical church in Latin Quarter of Paris and originally named as St Genevieve. The Pantheon was also the place where the astronomer Jean Bernard Leon Foucault first held his famous experiment proving that the world spins around its axis. The Foucault pendulum is a must see in the Pantheon.

I drop by to an Internet café to send BB an email after missing in action for few days. The charges for 30 mins of usage is Î1. Due to the raining morning, my suede boots is wet… it feel so cold… The weather is 5 degree…. Brrrrrrr… freezing!!!

Our next destination will be the Largest and most well known church, The Notre Dame Cathedral that is predominantly present in Da Vinci Code and Disney’s Hunchback of The Notre Dame. Notre Dame Cathedral is just one station away from the Pantheon. We alight at the St Michael station, the gothic Cathedral is just beside the Seine River…. The Notre Dame Cathedral is still an active church and a place for pilgrimage.  There are service going on by the time enter the Church, and loads of tourist as well… we have to elbow our way to walk through…

Siene River
Notre Dame Cathedral

The Cathedral is famous for its stained glass, the west and North rose… Soooo beautiful!!!! And I found this gigantic chandelier. I am very very obsessed with chandelier; don’t you think it’s beautiful??

Gigantic Chandelier in Notre Dame Cathedral

The West and North Rose stained Glass window

After that, we took a short walk around the Notre Dame Cathedral, same like Basilica; a lot of souvenir shops surrounded it… But Paris souvenirs are expensive…a painting can easily sell at Î5-15, t-shirts Î9-12, post card also Î1 a piece… Cannot afford to buy any souvenir!!

Food around here also looks like quite expensive; we decide to go back to Luxembourg for French most famous food, Baguette… We saw a shop selling a baguette with drinks at only Î3,20, and here in St Micheal is Î5 per set… just because this is Paris most famous monument area?

We do not have a lot of trouble buying the food, cause the shop owner is an Indian couple, and they have no problem speaking English! Me ordered a chicken ham baguette, the filling is sumptuous.. But the baguette is just too hard!! My mouth pain and hurt after chewing the 6” baguette…  Its not like what we have here, its at least a time harder than ours… So, I can certified myself have strong teeth..

Its noon hours by now, even though the sun is shinning on the skies, but its still freezing cold! PARIS IS DEFINITELY COLDER THAN LONDON! I have to wrap myself like Arabian women to avoid chill wind to blow into my body!!

We finished all the historical and sacred attraction visits, and now what else? Of course is the super branded street at Champs Elysees….  Champs Elysees start from Arc De Triomphe… It’s another famous monument in Paris, and its just marking a starting point to venture to Champs Elysees…

Arc De Triomphe

Champs Elysees is loads with super brand outlets on both side of the road… Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Givenchi and blah blah blah branded which I can’t even think of I can afford to buy one… But we did some cheapskate stuff, we went into this 3 storey high LV boutique even we have no intention to buy anything… you know, just see see look look, its quite common for tourist to window shop at here rather than LV boutique at the rest of the world, before you even think of want to enter, there are stares to tell you off “ Don’t try to make a fool here, if you have no plan to buy, just get lost!!!”
So, we got the chance to examine every LV products and drop jaws for their pricing!!!!

Louis Vuitton at Champs Elysees

There are also some mid class brand at Champs Elysees, like Gap, Zara… Sis must be loving here… yet, we did not manage to buy anything, its all winter wear.. All thick clothing, how do you expect me to wear in Malaysia?

I got so tired of walking for so long in my boots with heels, I just sat down at the bench beside the street…
We then go to Hard Rock Café in Paris, thought to get a souvenir t-shirt back home… hmmm… its too expensive to get one… Its only 6pm by now… another 5 hours to go for our coach back… with no other itinerary, we go back to Bel Est mall for the Chinese Cuisine again… Though not cook very well if compared any Chinese food I had back In KL, but after so many days of western food, its just seems as good as it can be….

Took a warm meal, we walk again in the Jennifer Boutique and bought another few piece of clothing, we then have a walk at Auchan… Auchan is a French Brand Hypermarket… we chose and bought some snacks back for our colleague for souvenir..

Then its time to take our coach back to London!! Sleep all the way till it reaches the ferry. This time the ferry has a duty free shop in it… not so boring; we can at least have a walk during the border crossing… Mum bought her Estee Lauder Essence here at a real bargain price…

The UK border crossing again as we expected is tough… me being ask many question before they stamp the entry visa for me…. Thank god!!!

Day 7 - Disney Wonderland~ My first Disney Experience

30/10/08
Many have asked why do you want to go to most expensive Disney park in Paris, and Paris is definitely a better place to explore its historical side…. Well, I believe that everybody should go to Disneyland at least once to revive your childhood dreams again and it proven that my choice is right! And, balance out a bit lah, I’ve been seeing so many historical attractions throughout my past 6 days journey!! Me just not an artistic person, Get it???

We bought the ticket online in advanced… Not cheap though… A one day one park ticket cost £34. and you must also add a to and fro train journey to Marne la Vallee that cost Î12..  See… Just the admission cost you RM280!!!! So expensive, but its worth it!

We took the breakfast at the hotel, this hotel serve better breakfast than any of those we had in UK….  And then I took a brochure from the hotel, hand it to the ticket counter and got my RER ticket to Marne La Vallee without any problem…

Disneyland Resort Paris is located at the outskirt of Paris and toke about 35 mins of train ride to reach there. However, there is a direct Euro star train to reach there from London’s King Cross Station.

The Disneyland Resort Paris is separated to 2 parks, The Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studio Park, a mini village of Disneyland Hotels with a choice from 7 hotels… cool eh? And a shopping mall called Disney Village. Disney Village is a FOC entrance fee mall, I have friends go all the way there to just Disney Village without going into the Disneyland… what a strange thought…?!?!

Then we took a super long queue to visit “the best haunted mansion” I ever visited… The Phantom Manor… When you first enter, its actually a lift that will bring you to the basement of the mansion, you’ll then unravel the mystery of the bride who waited for her groom in vain… not a very spooky haunted mansion, but its just high tech…

The Phantom Manor

The settings are decorated like a African themed restaurant… And they have a band playing some jungle music inside!! We ordered a fast food set with delicious chicken wings, nuggets, fries and coke! All the food container and tissues are printed with Disney character… Shiok!

We walked into one of this souvenir shops at Fantasy Land, me bought a Disney T-shirt for myself and Howard, mum too bought a t-shirt and a Toy Story Car for Howard!

Its about 7 plus now, we are exploring into the last part, The Discovery Land, where the future of great visionaries comes to life… We were too tired and cold! We only took the Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast… A ride on the star cruiser and zapping the enemy with your laser gun… me only collected 600+ points, there are some way higher player reaches to 13k points… paiseh paiseh!!!

We visited another studio call the “Honey, I shrunk the audience”, it’s a 3D show, and its my first time watching a 3D… hahahahaha

We didn’t took the space mountain ride and star tour… just so tired of queuing  anymore… there end our Disneyland Day tour…

We had a short walk at the Disney Village, you wont be fantasy over it once you explored the Disneyland park.. Had McDonald for dinner… Mcdonald in Paris is expensive….!!!!!!!
